The boat that rocked: an illegal radio station broadcasts rock and roll in the North Sea in the 1960s.

If you like classic rock or rock and roll at all then you have to watch this movie. I have no idea if this story is completely made up or not but regardless the music in this movie is amazing and then when you add in an amazing cast and some hilarious comedy it is an amazing film.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy and Nick Frost. All amazing. All fantastic together. Philip especially played an amazing character and I really loved watching him. Tom Sturridge was cute but was the least impressive but that will happen when a young new actor is up against kings like Nighy and Hoffman.

The over all story is good, the whole pirate radio and the government trying to shut them down was interesting. The comedy was good but the emotional scenes were less impressive. They weren't awful, it was just that the issues some characters were facing were not important to me. Maybe I'm just an awful person.

Music is amazing. Cast is great. It's a fun ride and I loved every minute of it. Kind of weird and corny at parts but it kind of worked with the whole hippy, 60s, pirate thing.

Like.

When a girl finds out that her brother is marrying her bully from high school she sets out to change his mind and show him who he is really marrying.

I got watched this movie know that it would be bad. I wanted a late night movie that I could watch without thinking and get some giggles out of it and that is exactly what I got. This is not so much a chick flick as it is a comedy but there were a lot of girly moments tied into the humour which was as good as any emotional scene can get in a romcom. Meh.

I was really surprised by how much I liked Kristen Bell as the main character. She did geeky, she did awkward, she did sexy and she did comedy. I haven't really noticed her before so this was a great surprise. Odette Annable, who played the bully was amazing as the total mean girl. Her and Bell worked well together.

Jamie Lee Curtis was fantastic in this movie, she made me laugh so much. The fact that Betty White is in it is reason enough to watch it. She was amazing as always. Sigourney Weaver was great, I have never seen her in a sassy, sexy mom role so it was a humourous change. I thought she handled it really well.

...don't expect anything life changing. It is a romcom with some hilarious scenes and if you were picked on in school like me (single tear) you'll probably find it even more entertaining than you should.

A medium and single parent father finds out that he has cancer and only months left to live. While not being sure if he is ready to die he also becomes desperate for money in order to provide for his children once he is gone. Sometimes lose ends cannot be tied yet sometimes an end is the beginning to a fresh start.

Javier Bardem is awesome. While I am not one of the majority who thinks he is this ultra Spanish hunk, I honestly think he has a lot of talent and picks roles that really appeal to him. This was no easy character to play and I thought he handled all the layers to this man in the story. The emotions and pressure was really felt and you could see it in his face while the movie progresses. Gotta love when actors fully give themselves over to a role.

I thought the story was interesting. The core heart of it has been done before; the family that's rough around the edges and a parent who struggles to provide for them. Yet, this movie had a lot more going on that was weaving itself into the main plot while not distracting the viewer from the main course of the film. The whole psychic/medium thing, the connection with ethnic groups and the background of the father as a whole. So many layers to the story but I found that it kept me interested while the drama built and built and the movie became more dark and emotional, which was a good thing.

I liked the ending of this movie a lot. It gave me goosebumps. That being said though I felt that something was missing. I'm not sure if it was because I wasn't satisfied with the lack of information on Bardem's character and my desire to get to know him better or if through translation (there are subtitles) that I missed the meaning of a lot of the unexplained happenings...no idea. I just, wanted something else.

Glad I finally got around to seeing this and I completely understand why it got so much hype last year and why Javier got extra gold stars from the film community. Well done.
